The world's entire population of critically endangered mountain gorillas live only in the Virunga Massif and Bwindi, which spans parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and Rwanda. Virunga National Park is home to around a third of those gorillas, which reside in the dense forests on the lush slopes of the Virunga volcanoes.

Virunga National Park is home to two vulnerable species of gorilla: one-third of the world's endangered mountain gorillas and a small population of Eastern lowland gorillas, with only seven individuals remaining. By safeguarding their habitat and closely monitoring the species, our team of rangers is working to revive both populations.
